When doing creative work it often reflects what I am working on or contemplating internally. This seems to be especially true of glass work, symbolism every where: reflection, seeing clearly, vision.
When creating the piece above and the rest of the set that goes with it I found my mind wandering through thoughts on the imperfections in the glass what it adds, I don’t think it ever takes away, and how it speaks to me. (maybe because I had just been reading The gifts of imperfection by Brene’ Brown) How things are not really black and white. So much of how we move through life is perception, what we see given our lives and experiences. Is this really black and white or is there some gray to be found? Stars or snow flakes? What do you see reflected back to you? Are you seeing clearly or is there distortion due to curvature or layering. In glass these change the reflection.
The layers of the glass are a perfect metaphor for the layers in life. It all seems so black and white, until it cracks and there right in front of you is the space in between. The place where we find ourselves.
Have a beautiful day.
